Why Holistic Dentistry?
Nothing prepares you for the moment you realize your child is struggling – and no one can tell you why. By the age of five, my daughter struggled severely with night-breathing. I was in tears and broken watching her struggle because every part of her life seemed to be changing for the worse. She no longer felt like the happy child I knew. She struggled to wake up, was tired and cranky, most days developed dark circles under her eyes, became a picky eater or wouldn’t eat at all. Every day was a struggle as a mom. One night, listening to her difficult mouth breathing without answers, I knew this was not nature’s way for my child and in that moment I knew I had to roll up my sleeves and do something about it – I would make it my mission to heal my daughter using my passion for functional medicine and my dental training.
As a mom of four and a dentist, it has always been essential to create a healthy path for my kids to grow with integrity into adulthood. As a holistic practitioner, I know this means unrestricted breathing, good posture, quality sleep and whole food nutrition to support their best growth potential and minimize dis-ease in their life. I knew that setting their minds and bodies up for success in life meant starting at the very beginning in childhood. The way their bodies, bones and tissues developed would foreshadow their health for life. I knew their oral architecture would influence the rest of their body and health into adulthood. As mothers, we strive to provide the utmost care and set our kids up for success in life as much as we can. So when I realized my own daughter began to develop obstructed breathing patterns, I needed answers the current dental world was not offering. I dove into holistic and oral research paired with my dental background to find a solution I could not find with other providers.
Being a naturalist, understanding and utilizing functional medicine, I treated her as a whole person rather than in isolated methodologies. I researched, studied and applied all that I knew. Soon I was watching my daughter gently improve every aspect of her life. Her posture, sleep and eating improved over the course of treatments I gave her. In addition, her fun-loving personality came back, she also improved clarity, focus and energy to complete tasks. Over time, I realized this gentle and natural way of oral, postural correction was lasting. Once her body adjusted, it recognized its natural form.
This was the moment Dr. Roland’s Signature Treatments® were born.
My daughter’s hardship became the mission for my dental practice, The Center for Transformative Dentistry, to bring functional oral structure and postural treatments to children and adults struggling with underlying oral health challenges resulting in life impacting challenges and doing it the way nature intended so that results are ever-lasting and not just a bandaid.
Through this very personal, emotional journey with my daughter, my understanding of health was forever empowered – The human body is amazing, its innate design is intentional and optimal. The body wants to heal itself! We just have to sync up with its natural state. In my practice we apply a whole body approach including, nutrition, oral microbiome, posture, myofascial tissue release, oral structural care healing in addition to the healthiest, least invasive, non-toxic general dentistry materials and approaches in the market.
As a growth-minded holistic practitioner embracing research of my own and others – our practice stays on the cutting edge of functional and dental medicine to bring our patients not only the best care, but the most up to date treatments and education to empower patients to make the healthiest, most informed choices for optimal health.
When I am not treating patients you can find me in the kitchen cooking Mediterranean forward family meals, on my yoga mat or traveling with my four children, husband and new puppy!
